(Re)think What Your Goals Are Regarding Health.

Long before I even began my journey of losing weight and learned a bit about nutrition, there was a certain question and response I heard frequently when talking about weight goals. the question was

“What’re you trying to accomplish?” and thinking back I don’t think anyone with little to no knowledge of nutrition could be able to honestly answer that. So the typical response was always “ I want to have abs.” Many people including myself have/had that belief that abs essentially equal good health, good looks, and just seems pretty cool to have.

The point I’m trying to make is that many people don’t know how hard it is to get abs and how your genetics will play a larrrrge role in determining it too! While there is nothing wrong with trying to aim for them (As I am right now) I would advise taking it a step at a time in doing so you’ll learn a lot about yourself and if you truly want abs or maybe just losing a few pounds. It’s okay to have goals that others would consider to be “small” or “lame” at the end of the day this is and should be for you!

I’ll be real with you, just losing any amount of weight and keeping them off while still eating properly is already an accomplishment in of itself. This made me realize that people are pretty ambitions or greedy haha. I say this because I remember always saying:

“Mannnn let me lose just ONE pound and I’ll be happy forever!” That quickly turned into a lie, as soon as I got a handle on how to lose the weight (more on that in the next blog promise (; ) I wanted to lose more! I still don’t think there was anything wrong with that because I needed/wanted to lose it. However that mentality can be dangerous because you’ll never be satisfied with what you have accomplished and worse never be happy with your body. I read a line from a manga (Japanese Comic) one time that referred to a persons happiness as a box, and that certain people will unknowingly make a hole in their “happiness box” which leads them to never being full or well happy with themselves. As I went down the road of weight loss I kept this metaphor close in mind and it really helped me out in situations where I would fail.

And yes you will fail haha, everyone does its honestly more weird if you didn’t (but that’s just me) and having a strong anchor to keep you level and really asking yourself what you want to accomplish is crucial to your progress in this and in life when you think about. You don’t have to have abs, you don’t have to be a millionaire IF you don’t feel like it, otherwise go for it this is just some friendly advice that can hopefully guide anyone of you if you’re thinking about weight loss or gain if you need that.

To sum it up, know what you want or at least start with that, no shame in whatever you want to accomplish. I think that getting the right mindset for this should come first. I’ll get into the whole process of how and what/why I did what I did to lose 80 pounds!
